Today when I visited her, she was better. No masks required. But she looked so tired and weak with huge bags under her eyes. Poor thing. I tried to engage her with different topics. But she wasn't responding other than everyone is useless. Then somehow my cats came up in the conversation and she started talking about how her family raised alot of cats and ate them in China. And the older the cats were, the better they taste. And it's the opposite with dogs, they taste better when they're younger! Who knew....
Gram had the flu so the nursing home went under quarantine. I think a few other seniors also caught the flu so they were discouraging visitors. We had to wear masks and gloves in order to visit. I don't even think Gram knew she was sick but was coughing and super congested. I felt so bad for her. Earlier in the week, she was resigned to dying but I made her promise to hold on until I get married. And as sick as she was, she was alert enough to say "do you have a man?" Ummm, not right now but it's in the works?

Yes, I said it. So glad I can go to the mall now without dealing with the vultures circling in the parking lot. So glad I can get back to my diet. So glad the company's holiday party is over. So glad all of the expectations that come along with the holidays are done.
Enough said, back to the regular routine. Dad going to Baltimore to visit Nancy and Brandon this coming week. And Dad planning another trip to China in April...again. Jeez, I haven't gone back since Mom passed. What's wrong with this picture. Hmmm.. I visited my grams today and brought a card game "Go Fish" with animal pictures. I played with her and her friend who sits on her left. My goal is to buy some more games to engage her. She always says she doesn't want to play but once you deal her some cards, she really enjoys it. I can tell. She's pretty cognizant, whether we're playing War or trying to match up the animal pictures. Not bad for 92... My office was closed this week for the holidays. But I went in to work on Monday & Tuesday to do some year-end stuff. And of course, what happens is I get sick on Wednesday!!! Aaargh, instead of enjoying my time off, I'm trying to shake off this cold/flu.
So with the help of Nyquil, I'm starting off the new year looking forward to new beginnings and closing the door on an unsettling 2014. I've had a lot of time to reflect on the past and hopefully learn from my mistakes and do better. Cos that's what Mom would want me to do. It's been a wild ride since she's been gone. And I'm hoping 2015 brings a more balanced and peaceful year! But for all you people reading this blog, I wish you a healthy, happy and prosperous year. Thanks for taking the time to read the blog. And don't worry about me, I'm really doing better. So is my Dad.... |

AuthorI'm fortunate enough to have an awesome job at a biotech company. I'm also blessed to have the bestest of friends in the world - from Castle Square, ATASK, and Jamie Club - you know who you are! Last but not least, I have a family that are always there for me. Categories |
