My friend was going to make and wrap joongs, an annual event for her and her family. So I kinda invited myself to her place so I can learn how to make it. Por Por used to make it for the Chin family and we always looked forward to it. But it's been years since she made it. Anyways, my friend did the hard part and washed and prepped the leaves. All I brought was the pork belly which I salted overnight, salted egg yolks and chinese sausage. I was able to wrap it but my joongs weren't pretty. But my friend said who cares what it looks like? As long as it tastes good! Haha, and it was pretty good. Even Por Por approved. She thought I bought it!

Had dinner with two ex-sis-in-laws, ex-brother-in-law and an ex-husband last night! Hmmm, what would my Mom say? She probably wouldn't have said anything to me but.....I know she has something to say about the ex-husband!! She wasn't exactly thrilled with him when they last met in SF. But that was a long time ago and she probably was smiling down at us. She never holds a grudge!
This is the first year I didn't meet up with my Aunt Mona for Mother's Day. I know she has a lot going on and I kinda want to spend it on my own. This year has been amazing in the sense that I'm out almost every night. Just spending time with friends and family. So any night I don't have plans, it's a luxury to just kick back and play with my two fur babies!
I did bring some dim sum for Por Por. She totally enjoyed it. It's got to be a lot better than the food they serve at the nursing home! So a pretty uneventful Mother's Day. Sad that Mom isn't here but at the same time I know she is watching over me. Dad and I drove to NYC Saturday to meet up with Nancy & Brandon. Met with Henry and my aunt for lunch too. Dad will go with Nancy back to MD. I think he's looking forward to taking a bath at Nancy's!! His new apartment doesn't have a tub anymore - just a a shower stall. I guess it's safer for seniors?
Norm stopped by Mom's grave the other day and noticed someone pulled up some of the plants I planted!!! They also stuck an Irish Flag on her grave! What the fuck? I understand she is buried at St. Joseph's cemetery but really? I was so angry! I called the office and the woman there said they didn't do it. And she cannot control what other people do cos the cemetery is open to the public! Honestly, I really didn't expect much but her attitude was so shitty! She made me even more upset. So I threatened to call the police because it's obviously racially motivated. She said there's nothing they can do and I should do whatever I have to do. I guess they won't do anything until headstones are upturned or desecrated.
I ended up calling the sales guy that I worked with when we bought the plots. And he said the woman in the office was an idiot. He then reassured me that he would keep an eye out on Mom's grave. The worst part of this is the fact that it's happening? I was first blaming Irish people but maybe I shouldn't assume the person who did it was Irish? I don't know...I really don't want to waste any more time or energy on this negative situation. I actually teared up thinking about why anyone would do something like that? Anyways, Norm fixed it by replacing the flowers. I believe in karma so whoever did it............. |

AuthorI'm fortunate enough to have an awesome job at a biotech company. I'm also blessed to have the bestest of friends in the world - from Castle Square, ATASK, and Jamie Club - you know who you are! Last but not least, I have a family that are always there for me. Categories |
