Once upon a time, a drag queen was hosting a CNY celebration show at Machine. And he asked if he could borrow my Chinese cheongsam. And since I was divorced and had already donated my wedding gown, I thought why not? The fucked up thing is, he actually fit the dress except in the shoulders. But he looked beautiful in my dress. I never asked for the dress back as it didn't hold any sentimental value to me at the time.
That was in 1999. We lost touch as he moved to NC and then FL. We connected on FB a few years ago and got close again this year. And I was curious as to whether or not he still had the dress. The reason being is my Mom made the dress!! She spent hours on it. We designed it together. So now there are loads of sentimental feelings towards it.
I asked him earlier this year...and again...and again. And finally again around my birthday. He would always say he'll look for it. I didn't know that he was anxious about not finding it as he knows how much it meant to me. Well, he finally went to look for it in the basement of his Dad's house, and lo and behold he FOUND it!!! OMG we both cried over it. I didn't have a lot of faith of ever getting it back. Again, best Christmas present ever! Mom, thank you for the time and effort of creating this beautiful dress for me on my special day.
