Closing 2014 - Chinese New Year

My Dad and I spent this past Saturday afternoon with Por to close the year. My uncles Dave and Rob and some of their families were also there. It was heartwarming to see Por smiling and in good spirits. Maybe the meds are kicking in :) I wanted to get her all gussied up for the new year and planned on painting her nails bright red. But my cousin Renee forgot the nail polish! I did pick up some bobby pins and a brush for her hair. She was happy when she saw the bobby pins but they were too long!!! Man, we suck! Can't get it right.

And tonight my Dad came over to cook dinner for me and Norm to officially close out the year. I know Mom is smiling down at us for carrying on the tradition that she started!

Speaking of which, I had this dream of my her last night. It felt so real and of course I can't remember anything about it now! There has been only a handful of times that I've dreamt of her since she passed. I wish it could be more often but I guess I can't control my dreams. Tho she is never far from my thoughts. Again, this is favorite time of the year.....

A few weeks ago, I bumped into a friend whom I haven't seen in over 11 years. He owns a Chinese restaurant and yesterday asked if I could help out?! Damn it's been over 13 years since I worked at my dad's restaurant. But why not....I did know a few people at the restaurant so it wasn't bad at all. It brought back alot of memories and how far I've come. But also very humbling cos at first I thought  it's beneath me. Really? Who the "f" do I think I am? I'm no better than anyone there. Mom would've been pissed that I thought that. Sorry, Mom.

Anyways, I was happy to help my friend tho not sure how useful I was....

Who knew? Cheetos and chicken

Went to visit Grams last weekend and brought her a soy sauce chicken leg and some jook. OMGoodness, her face lit up! She ate really well. I think she hasn't eaten that since she was hospitalized.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to go to Ctown this weekend. Instead I brought her a filet-of-fish which she ate half yesterday. Probably cos she realized she lost her lower dentures! The staff tried looking for it but to no avail. Luckily my Uncle Dave has an extra older set.

Today I brought my Dad and some munchkins. Uncle Rob was also there and brought her some cheetos. Which she really likes! Too funny.....then Uncle Dave showed up with soy sauce chicken which she asked him earlier for :) I'm glad she is showing interest in what she's eating. It was tough and go when she was sick as she was losing weight down to 97 lbs. But she gained a pound this week.

I'm fortunate enough to have an awesome job at a biotech company. I'm also blessed to have the bestest of friends in the world - from Castle Square, ATASK, and Jamie Club - you know who you are! Last but not least, I have a family that are always there for me.

Because of all the people in my life, awesome opportunities have come my way - working and volunteering in the community. I hope to continue that work with a little help from my friends.
