Happy New Year!

Without my Mom here, I feel like our traditions are slowly slipping away. Because I was away, my Dad couldn't find tangerines with leaves. but we pretty much had everything else. I have to do a better job next year! I went to visit my Por Por to celebrate with her. I brought her a soy sauce chicken leg for dinner. I don't really think she knew it was CNY even though I told her. Oh well, that's ok. We're planning on celebrating on the 19th.

Well, it's the year of the rooster. What does that mean for me and what do I have to look forward to? I found this online:

2017 will be a wonderful year for those born in the Year of the Dragon where your career will progress rapidly. With your strong finances, your social status will improve as well. Relationship matters will be above average. Many aspects of your life will improve tremendously. However, it does not promise you a problem free year. There will still be some potential problems but you will have so many favorable conditions on your side that the problems can be reduced and avoided. Most of the problems will strike fast, and you will be attracting many envious and jealous eyes. Hence, do not take things for granted and do not push your luck. You will discover that people who want to cause harm will be those that you have regarded to be close to your heart. Such discovery will shake you emotionally, but may not be able to cause significant damage. Your health will be average, but there will be many frustrating minor ailments. You will receive bad news about family members which can be them going through a difficult time, getting into troubles or being in life threatening situations. This will be something that is beyond your control. You can only remind them of the potential problems and be there when they need you. You can make the best out of this year by maximizing your favorable conditions and avoid the potential problems that come along. You will have the opportunity in 2017 to transform your lifestyle for the better.

Sounds pretty good! Excited to see if it comes true. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Leaving Paradise

I took a little break from work and headed to Nevis, a small island off of St. Kitts. Went with a friend and stayed at the Four Seasons. I know, la dee dah. Yea, it was nice and the service was superb but the resort was showing signs of wear and tear. But overall it was really relaxing and the weather was perfect, not humid and not too hot.

We ventured into town and found a Chinese restaurant! I went in and met Lee from China. She was very sweet and patient with all of my questions. I was so curious about her life and how she came to this island with a population of 9,000.  Apparently, her husband's family settled there awhile back. She moved there with her husband in 2006. And loves it. Man, they work hard - 7 days a week. And doesn't seem to have a lot. But at the same time she seems so happy. I envy that.

My Dad Goes Visiting

This weekend Dad felt well enough to go with me visiting Mom & grandma yesterday and my uncle today. We lit some incense sticks at Mom's grave site. And Dad started telling my Mom that he was sick but is now ok. And he told her not to worry. Cute that he's trying to reassure her. I keep telling him that this was a wake-up call and he cannot go back to the way he used to eat and go out. And if he has another stroke, it will be way worse. Not sure if he blocks me out when I'm lecturing him.

Dad started chuckling as soon as he saw my grandma! Also very cute. I honestly don't think she even knew he hasn't visited in awhile - almost two months!

And today, it was nice to see the two brothers together again - both ALIVE! It's such a blessing. And we should not take for granted.

I cannot complain as my Dad decided on his own to graduate from the walker to using a cane. Doesn't want to do physical therapy as he says he rides a stationary bike every day in his building's small gym.

And my Uncle is doing so well and is slowly and surely on his way to walking on his own again!

So given all of that, it is a happy new year for the Chin family. It could've been so much worse! Both brother's wills are so strong as I'm sure they've been through much worse in their childhood. This recovery is a piece of cake!

Thanks to everyone for all of their well wishes. 2017 is going to be a great year! I have faith.

I'm fortunate enough to have an awesome job at a biotech company. I'm also blessed to have the bestest of friends in the world - from Castle Square, ATASK, and Jamie Club - you know who you are! Last but not least, I have a family that are always there for me.

Because of all the people in my life, awesome opportunities have come my way - working and volunteering in the community. I hope to continue that work with a little help from my friends.
