We celebrated Por Por's birthday today! She was in a great mood. She loved the cake and ate ALL of it. Which isn't generally the case - she might have a couple of bites. It was a pina colada cake from Konditor Meister. So good, I ordered another one for myself! I'll have to skip dinner so I can eat cake!

I have moments in which memories of my Mom are so vivid! It came to me last week when I was listening to an Air Supply song. Air Supply was performing at Mohegan Sun in the Wolf Den (free). Yes, that's right - Air Supply. And whenever I told my Mom I was going she told me she was also going. I didn't realize how popular they are in Asia. So there's a part in the concert in which the two lead singers come out into the audience. And whenever the tall blond one stop by our table - my Mom went nuts! Like a true groupie. She gave him a huge hug and couldn't stop smiling. It was definitely a side I've never seen from her. And that was my Mom - she never held back when she was happy. It was truly a great moment. One I will never forget.
My Dad wanted to see my Uncle Rob so we took a ride over to Medfield today. Uncle Rob was alert and was having lunch. He is back to eating what he wants. Not surprised there! It was really nice to see the two brothers together. They are really something - two characters who have endured so much. Dad told Uncle Rob that the goal is for him to get better and my Dad will take him back to visit China and HK. Which means Renee and I will also have to go! But it would be an amazing trip!
On the ride back to town, I said to my Dad that he's lived a full life. A gangster's life, gambler's life, and a druggie's life - he's done everything! Somehow the conversation turned to my Mom and that it's a good thing he had a sharp eye and picked her. I said yeah good for him but not sure if it was good for my Mom! He said "Hey, your Mom knew I was always on her side." He said she once told him about a dream she had of being abducted by some middle eastern guys. And how my Dad was climbing a wall outside of the room she was being held captive in. He was held up by ropes across his chest and a grappling hook. My Mom yelled at him "Are you coming to rescue me or not?" Haha, I can totally see her yelling at him but I can't see my Dad as a ninja. He's more likely to send a couple of thugs to rescue her!!! My Uncle Rob is home and already starting PT. Such a fighter. So all is well - for now. Dad is still doing his thing. Will get him to go swimming again so he has some form of exercise.
I was driving home from work the other day and decided not to wear my seat belt! Again! fuck it- it was so freeing....and I know to some of you diehard safety fans, it's reckless. But there's something to not conforming. And it's not like I'm robbing a bank or anything. If anything I would hurt myself if something happens. Anyways, don't worry - I AM wearing my seatbelt. 95% of the time! |
