Mom's faith in me

Last minute decision to go see this movie "The Farewell" tonight with my friend Clinton. It's about this Chinese woman played by Awkwafina who lives in NYC. She finds out her grandma in China is dying from lung cancer. But her family in China decided not to tell her grandma she's dying. She goes back to China with her parents on the pretense of a cousin's wedding. And you can imagine, drama ensues.

Why I'm telling you about this movie is the loving relationship between Billie (Awkwafina) and her grandma. Her grandma told Billie that despite being rejected for a fellowship she will SUCCEED. And no matter what happens, her grandma is always there supporting her.

This reminds me so much of my mom. When my 10 year old relationship ended, my mom said she wasn't worried about me being alone. She said "my daughter is so beautiful and strong, she won't have any problems finding anyone!" She definitely had more faith in me than I did!

After the movie, I bumped into a couple of friends. One who just started a new job at Rosie's Place. She is in charge of volunteers! They are in need of volunteers especially in Sept when students go back to school. And this is just what I need - the feelings I get when volunteering are amazing. I can't describe it and I feel like this is my mom's doing. Telling me to have faith and believe in myself. Also, get my ass out there to help people!! Ok, Mom - I'm on it.

I'm fortunate enough to have an awesome job at a biotech company. I'm also blessed to have the bestest of friends in the world - from Castle Square, ATASK, and Jamie Club - you know who you are! Last but not least, I have a family that are always there for me.

Because of all the people in my life, awesome opportunities have come my way - working and volunteering in the community. I hope to continue that work with a little help from my friends.
